What is Baklava?
![]() |
Popular in Greece and Turkey, this sweet dessert consists of many layers of butter-drenched phyllo [pronounced fee-low or fi-low] pastry, spices and chopped nuts. A spiced honey-lemon syrup is poured over the warm pastry after it's baked and allowed to soak into the layers. Before serving, the dessert is cut into triangles and sometimes sprinkled with coarsely ground nuts.

What makes New England Baklava
different?
|
A maple syrup sauce replaces the usual honey or sugar syrup. The combination of maple syrup, walnuts, and cranberries makes New England Baklava one of the most delicious treats you'll ever eat.
This updated version of a traditional Greek recipe is made with thin sheets of phyllo dough layered on top of each other and brushed with butter to make a fantastic crisp and light-as-air baked dessert. The cranberries add interesting texture and taste.
Even people who think they don't like baklava, or find it too sweet, will be delighted by this new twist on a traditional treat.

What kind of
ingredients do
you use?
|
All of our recipes are made with all natural ingredients. We use real, high quality butter and lots of it!
In addition, we use fresh phyllo dough, ground walnuts, and dried cranberries, crystallized ginger and creamy white chocolate chips. We also use Grade B dark and rich maple
syrup from New Hampshire.

What makes your syrup so different from traditional baklava?
|
Traditional baklava makers use honey and sugar, or even corn syrup to soak their baklavas. The result is sometimes so sweet it hurts!
New England Baklava uses only New England Maple syrup mixed with fresh lemons and cinnamon for our baklava syrup. We find the results a lot less sweet, and simply delicious!
